Abstract

This article informs the reader of significant information found in the Lower Hutt's Parks and Gardens files archived at the Hutt City Council Archives, in particular PL12-3 Parks and Gardens file series. It describes the history of the Hutt Recreation Ground (Hutt Rec) established in 1904 and officially opened in 1905.

Author Biography

Wayne Nelson

Wayne Nelson started as an Archivist at National Archives and later became Senior Historic Buildings Officer for the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. He privately initiated the project for the restoration of the Wellington Krupp Gun, a captured WW1 war trophy now located in the Botanical Gardens, Wellington. He has a Masters Degree with Distinction in history from Victoria University, the Diploma in Information Management/ Archives Administration from the University of New South Wales, and a PhD from the Robert Sorbon University, France. He is currently writing a book on the Church of St. Mary of the Angels, Wellington.
