Abstract

Technological change and financial pressures are impacting archival organisations everywhere. These pressures have created many challenges for Archives New Zealand, not only to preserve the record of government but to maintain access for generations to come. As the demand for, and cost of digital storage increases exponentially, Archives New Zealand is building capabilities and expertise through a series of priority projects and longer-term initiatives to better position Archives to meet these challenges.

Author Biography

Marilyn Little

Marilyn Little has been Chief Archivist/General Manager Archives NZ since Feb 2014, when she took up an internal secondment within the Department of Internal Affairs. Marilyn’s substantive role is General Manager Policy in the Department, a role she has held since 2011. Marilyn was previously Director Local Government and Community Policy, also in Internal Affairs, 2006-2011. She has also worked in senior roles
in the Office of the Auditor General, the Department of Labour and the State Services Commission.
